The Magic Flute

To think about it - visiting Opera Theatre weekly seems to be a part of a bit peculiar life style. But probably two weeks do not make weather really ^^

Today I listened to Mozart's "The Magic Flute". And I loved it!

I can't say that I am queer for Mozart. I like his works but there are composers I do love more.

And "The Magic Flute". If you remember the libretto of this opera... Well, it means you've got an outstanding memory actually ^___^ !
The plot of this opera is overwhelming. Start from the Serpent, then Queen of the Night, beasts, three good geniuses, the magic flute, sage Sarastro, Papageno in the bird plumage, trials to achieve wisdom, plot of revenge, committing suicide, mountains, gardens, temples, main characters' vow of silence (in opera!) et cetera. It's a whale of a story ^^``

I must admit today I went to listen to the "Mozart's Masonic opera". Something like this - no less and no more. But actually all the symbolism of this thing doesn't matter at all!!

It was fairy time ^__^ !

This opera is a gush of fertile imagination. With fun outweigh moral.
I saw a giant snake attacking Prince Tamino right from the cellar of our small old theatre! I saw a lion right in front of my eyes - it walked through parquet! A girl from orchestra slapped Papageno! Boys-geniuses climb out from everywhere!
I saw one of the best performances I ever seen!!

Yes, of course, theatrical effects are very naiv; especially in our days when Hollywood easily shows a whole new universe every week.
But somehow all this beasts from property room are much close to the real fantasy than all cinema special effect that are getting boring because they are too realistic and too numerous.

And Mozart's music. I do not write about music - it doesn't need my praise you know ^_~ .

And performance was really impressive. Especially part of Queen of the Night. Wonderful voice.

Madam Butterfly

Yesterday I went to the Bashkir State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. I listened to the Giacomo Puccini's "Madama Butterfly". It's a première of this season. Don't want to write a lot. In a few words I was disappointed. Staging was unnecessary eclectic; undistinct mix of silly special effects and traditional decorations. Rendering left much to be desired as well.
Music is perfect (and orchestra did well). But I suppose I can't tell you anything new about a well known masterpiece ^_^

Irregular Cinema Fest

This week I watched two movies. Both were shown as a part of Irregular Cinema Fest.

First was "Dark Blue Almost Black" (Spain 2006). Hm, somehow all Spanish movies are alike each other although it is difficult to say what exactly do they have in common. So this was a story where several people (connected by family or friendship or love relations) fight for their dreams. Seems like this at the beginning. But with the lapse of time viewer would realize that their dreams are not actually what these people really wants. And at the end everyone would get what he wanted, but not what he dreamed about. Some kind of happy end. Or it is not?.. Anyway it was a touching story with clearly depicted characters and blue ambience.

Second was "I am Cyborg, But That's OK" (Korea 2006). This long brightly colored movie left not any emotions but strong bewilderment. In my opinion this was a movie with a strong air of nonchalance. Waste of director's (maybe) and spectators' (for sure) time.

Best wishes!
